Frequently Asked Questions
Why do shoe sizes differ between countries?
Different countries developed independent measuring systems. The US uses the Brannock device (barleycorn increments), the UK uses a similar but offset system, and the EU uses the Paris point (2/3 cm per size). None are perfectly interchangeable.
What is the most accurate way to determine my shoe size?
Measure both feet in centimeters (heel to longest toe) while standing. Use the longer foot. The centimeter/Mondopoint measurement is the most universal and accurate across brands and systems.
Assumptions & Limitations
- Shoe sizes follow published brand charts; actual fit varies between manufacturers.
- The Brannock formula is an approximation; half-size rounding can shift results by up to 4 mm.
- Child sizes use a different scale and are not covered by this converter.
