Body Type Calculator
Determine your body type (ectomorph, mesomorph, endomorph) based on body measurements.
A body type calculator determines your somatotype (ectomorph, mesomorph, or endomorph) based on skeletal frame measurements, helping you tailor your training and nutrition strategy.
Examples
5'9" male with 6.5" wrist
Frequently Asked Questions
Can my body type change?
Are most people a single body type?
Quick Tips
- •Use your body type as a starting point, not a limitation — training and nutrition can dramatically change your body composition.
- •Ectomorphs should prioritize caloric surplus and compound lifts; endomorphs benefit from higher protein and regular cardio.
- •Reassess your approach every 8-12 weeks based on actual progress rather than body type alone.
A body type calculator determines your somatotype (ectomorph, mesomorph, or endomorph) based on skeletal frame measurements, helping you tailor your training and nutrition strategy.
How to Use This Calculator
Enter your height, gender, and wrist circumference (measured at the narrowest point, just below the wrist bone). The calculator determines your body frame size and somatotype classification with tailored training and nutrition recommendations.
Understanding the Formula
Frame Ratio = Height (cm) / Wrist Circumference (cm). Male: >10.4 = Small/Ecto, 9.6-10.4 = Medium/Meso, <9.6 = Large/Endo. Female: >11.0 = Small/Ecto, 10.1-11.0 = Medium/Meso, <10.1 = Large/Endo.
Examples
5'9" male with 6.5" wrist
Height: 175.3 cm. Wrist: 16.5 cm. Ratio: 175.3/16.5 = 10.6. Classification: Small frame, Ectomorph body type.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can my body type change?
Your skeletal frame does not change, but you can significantly alter your body composition through training and nutrition. An ectomorph can build considerable muscle and an endomorph can become very lean.
Are most people a single body type?
No, most people are a blend of types. The classification is a spectrum, not a strict category. Use it as a starting point for training and nutrition, then adjust based on your individual response.
Assumptions & Limitations
- Wrist circumference is used as a proxy for overall skeletal frame size, which may not capture full body proportions.
- Body type classification is a simplified model — most people are a blend of two or more somatotypes.
