Time Zone Calculator

Convert times between time zones and see the current time in major cities around the world.

A time zone calculator converts times between any two time zones worldwide, accounting for daylight saving time differences.

Enter the time in 24-hour format, select the source and target time zones, and optionally set a date. The calculator converts the time and indicates if the date changes.

Examples

New York to London

12:00 PM EST (UTC-5) = 5:00 PM GMT (UTC+0). The offset difference is +5 hours.

Tokyo to Los Angeles

9:00 AM JST (UTC+9) = 4:00 PM PST the previous day (UTC-8). The offset difference is -17 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this account for daylight saving time?
This calculator uses fixed UTC offsets and does not automatically adjust for DST. During DST, you may need to select the offset that is 1 hour ahead of standard time (e.g. UTC-4 instead of UTC-5 for Eastern Daylight Time).
What are half-hour time zones?
Some regions use UTC offsets that are not whole hours. India is UTC+5:30, Nepal is UTC+5:45, and parts of Australia use UTC+9:30. This calculator includes the most common half-hour offsets.

Quick Tips

  • Remember that daylight saving time (DST) can shift offsets by 1 hour. This calculator uses standard offsets.
  • Use 24-hour format to avoid AM/PM confusion.
  • Check the "Day shift" field — a negative means the previous day, positive means the next day.

How to Use This Calculator

Enter the time in 24-hour format, select the source and target time zones, and optionally set a date. The calculator converts the time and indicates if the date changes.

Understanding the Formula

Target Time = Source Time + (Target UTC Offset - Source UTC Offset). If the result goes past midnight, the date shifts accordingly.

Assumptions & Limitations

  • Based on the Gregorian calendar; does not handle historical calendar systems.
  • Leap years are accounted for in all date calculations.
  • Uses fixed UTC offsets; daylight saving time shifts must be applied manually by selecting the adjusted offset.
