How to Use This Calculator
To add tax: enter the price before tax and the tax rate (or select a state for a preset rate), then click Calculate. To remove tax: enter the total you paid and the tax rate to find the pre-tax price. To find the rate: enter the price before tax and the total paid to get the effective tax rate.
Understanding the Formula
Add: Total = Price × (1 + rate/100). Remove: Price = Total / (1 + rate/100).
Examples
Add Tax to a Purchase
Item price $49.99 with 8.25% sales tax: Tax = $4.12, Total = $54.11.
Find Pre-Tax Price
You paid $107.50 total with 7.5% tax. Pre-tax price = $107.50 / 1.075 = $100.00. The tax portion was $7.50.
